So, it's 2016. As far as goals go, I'm so bad at keeping them that I decided not to really make any for the year, and am instead working on smaller monthly goals that hopefully I can keep track of. Aside from that, me and Tina's aim this year is to watch two movies a month in the cinema, so hopefully we can keep up with that.
I spent my first day of 2016 travelling to Osaka on the bus to watch Tenimyu's Seigaku vs Yamabuki again.
This was my third time seeing the show (the first being Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in Tokyo). Although I still think I like the previous musical better, this one is growing on me a lot. It has a lot more of a light hearted feeling than the previous musicals, mostly because in general Yamabuki are a far less dramatic team than Fudomine or St. Rudolph. I say "in general" because there is one thing getting in the way of that and that is the terrifying Akutsu Jin who makes me shiver when he looks out onto the audience with those eyes. Definitely my favourite character of the team. And I really love his game against Ryoma, it goes on for a long time but it's pretty intense.
Anyway, after three times here are some of my favourite moments:
- Mizuki's sudden tantrum when Fuji asks "who is that?" when they come across St. Rudolph. There's stamping and everything.
- The new encore song. It will be in my head forever. I still can't do the dance moves without failing though.
- Oishi pretending he's going to do a flip for his curtain call and then breaking into a skip.
- Akutsu's solo. Terrifying but amazing. Never heard anyone shout so much while singing (except for Yuta in the last musical, but Akutsu does it a lot better)
- Unfortunately this changed in Osaka, but Kaisei's hair when he changes it and has a random flick of hair on his forehead and his pathetic little face when Mizuki is not at all happy with him.
- The Jimi song and Minami's blank face throughout the whole thing.
When we saw it at Christmas, St. Rudolph had their little Christmas skit after the intermisson where they dressed up and gave out random presents. This time it was New Year of course, and so they had a Hanetsuki (Japanese badminton type game played at New Year) battle. First was Nomura vs Yuta. They did pretty well and managed to keep it up for quite a while but eventually Nomura lost. Then it was Yanagisawa vs Atsushi. Atsushi kept losing the hane above his head and it kept landing on him, so he lost. Anyway, Kaisei had circle and cross stickers that he would stick on their faces depending on the number of wins and loses. The stickers didn't stick all that well, though. Riku (Yanagisawa) lost one on the floor and then picked it up and decided to stick it to Kenya (Akazawa)'s arm instead. Then when they were running off stage at the end another one went flying and someone had to frantically ask Kenya to pick it up on his way out.
After the show ended, they did an omiokuri (basically they stand in the corridor in a line and we file past them as they wave at us). It's a different 5 members of cast each time. Today we got Zaiki (Tezuka), Sana (Kaidoh), Jin (Kita), Yuma (Nitobe) and Yugo (Atsushi). I was super happy for Tina because Yugo and Sana are two of her favourite cast members. It wasn't so good for me, but Zaiki was there and he's pretty high up on my list and super handsome up close. We got English "Happy New Year!"s from everyone, I think?
The final part of the event was on the way out, where we received a special New Year fortune sticker. The stickers were randomized, each with one of the characters on... or three characters, if you happened to be unlucky enough to get the one I got. The trio are the one thing I never want to see when getting these free random things, because they're very hard to get rid of. Amazingly though, someone came up to me and asked to trade very quickly! I told them I'd trade for anything, and received Nomura, which I promptly traded with Tina for her Kaneda (she likes Nomura better and I like Kaneda better). I then made a sign asking for either Akazawa or Ryoma. I didn't hold out much hope for Ryoma though because trading Kaneda for him would have been super hard. It took AGES, I couldn't even see anyone with either of them, but suddenly a girl tapped me on the shoulder and I turned round and there was an Akazawa in her hand. So I traded and off we went. And here he is:
I stood out in the cold for about 20 minutes for this dude.
With that, we got a nice warm Starbucks drink to recover and then headed back on the bus to Nagoya.
Now I'm looking forward to spending the rest of my vacation (I go back to work on the 5th January) relaxing.
